Microsoft Edge stores cookies and other site data that websites use for sign-ins, preferences, shopping carts, and other functions. Clearing cookies can solve some site problems, but it can also sign you out of websites.
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Open Settings.
- Select Privacy, search, and services.
- Find the section for clearing browsing data.
- Choose what to clear.
- Select the time range you want.
- Select Cookies and other site data.
- Clear the selected data.
Edge also provides controls for viewing and managing stored site data. If only one website is malfunctioning, removing data for that site can be less disruptive than signing yourself out everywhere.
Cookies and cached files are different
Cookies can contain session and preference information. Cached images and files are copies of website resources saved to improve loading. Select both only when you actually want to clear both categories.
Sync does not eliminate every local effect
Clearing local browsing data can still affect active website sessions even when you use an Edge profile and synchronization. Make sure you know important passwords before clearing sign-in cookies.
Normal Windows 10 support ended October 14, 2025, although current Microsoft Edge versions use similar browsing-data controls on supported Windows releases.
