Windows 10’s Enhance pointer precision setting changes pointer movement based partly on mouse speed. Turning it off provides more consistent Windows pointer movement and is commonly preferred for games or tasks where predictable mouse motion matters.
Turn off Enhance pointer precision
- Open Settings.
- Select Devices > Mouse.
- Open Additional mouse options.
- Select the Pointer Options tab.
- Clear Enhance pointer precision.
- Select Apply, then OK.
Games can handle mouse input differently
Some games use raw mouse input or their own sensitivity system and can ignore or reduce the effect of Windows pointer settings. Check the game’s mouse options if movement still feels accelerated.
Mouse software can add another layer
Gaming-mouse utilities can control DPI, sensitivity stages, polling behavior, and profiles independently of Windows. If pointer behavior changes only when a particular profile loads, review the manufacturer’s mouse software.
Do not confuse acceleration with speed
The Windows pointer-speed slider changes overall pointer movement. Enhance pointer precision changes how movement responds to physical mouse speed. Adjust one at a time so you can tell which setting produces the result you want.
