To hide your caller ID on Android, open the Phone app, tap the three-dot menu > Settings, then find Caller ID and choose Hide number. On a Samsung Galaxy it’s under Supplementary services > Show your caller ID > Never. To hide your number for just one call, dial *67 before the number in the US and Canada, or 141 in the UK.
Applies to: Android phones using the Google Phone app (Pixel, Motorola, OnePlus and others) and Samsung Galaxy phones with One UI. Whether it works depends on your carrier. Last reviewed October 8, 2026.
Google Phone app (Pixel and most Android phones)
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the three-dot menu at the top right and choose Settings.
- Tap Calling accounts (or Calls), then your SIM card or carrier.
- Tap Additional settings. Wait a moment while the phone checks with your carrier.
- Tap Caller ID and choose Hide number.
Samsung Galaxy
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the three-dot menu and choose Settings.
- Scroll down and tap Supplementary services.
- Tap Show your caller ID and choose Never.
With two SIM cards, the phone asks which one to change.
Hide your number for one call
Type a code before the number in the dialer. Your number is hidden for that call only.
- US and Canada: *67, for example *675551234567.
- UK and Ireland: 141 (UK) or 142 (Ireland).
- Australia: 1831.
- Much of Europe: #31#.
Codes vary by carrier, so test with a friend’s phone first. If you’ve hidden your number for all calls, dialing *82 first in the US shows it for one call.
Ask your carrier
If the Caller ID setting is greyed out or keeps switching back to Network default, your carrier controls it. Some carriers, including several prepaid brands, only let you hide your number through your online account or by calling support. Others block the feature entirely.
Things to know before hiding your number
- Emergency calls always show your number, as do some toll-free lines.
- Many people don’t answer “No Caller ID” or “Private” calls, and some phones send them straight to voicemail. On iPhone, for example, Silence Unknown Callers and call screening filter them.
- Text messages always show your number. Caller ID settings only affect voice calls.
- WhatsApp, Signal and other app calls use your app account, not your phone’s caller ID setting.
Show your number again
Go back to the same setting and choose Show number or Network default on the Google Phone app, or Always on Samsung.
Troubleshooting
“Network or SIM card error” when opening Additional settings
Turn off Wi-Fi Calling temporarily, make sure you have mobile signal, and try again. If it still fails, the carrier doesn’t allow the change from the phone.
My number still shows
Check that you changed the right SIM, then call a friend to test. Some carriers override the phone’s setting; ask them to add caller ID blocking to your line.
The setting isn’t where these steps say
Your phone may use a different dialer. Open the Phone app’s settings and search for “caller ID”. You can also install the Google Phone app from the Play Store on most phones.

Is hiding caller ID legal?
Yes, in most countries. Using fake numbers to deceive people (spoofing) is a different thing and is illegal in many places.
Can the person I call find out my number?
Not through their phone. Your carrier still records it, and emergency services always see it.
Does this work on iPhone?
