If a Dell laptop or all-in-one has a touch-capable display, Windows 11 normally enables the touchscreen automatically. When touch has been disabled at the device level, you can check Device Manager for the HID-compliant touch screen and enable it. Not every Dell display supports touch.
How to Turn On a Dell Touch Screen in Windows 11
Step 1: Confirm the model has a touchscreen
Check the exact Dell model or service documentation. A standard non-touch panel cannot be made touch-sensitive with a Windows setting.
Step 2: Open Device Manager
Right-click Start and choose Device Manager.
Step 3: Expand Human Interface Devices
Find HID-compliant touch screen if it is present.
Step 4: Enable the device
Right-click the touchscreen entry and choose Enable device if that option appears. If the menu says Disable device instead, the touchscreen is already enabled at that level.
Step 5: Test touch input
Close Device Manager and test the screen.
If HID-Compliant Touch Screen Is Missing
Restart the computer and install appropriate Windows and Dell firmware/driver updates from supported sources. Check the model’s diagnostics if touch previously worked and then disappeared. Do not install a random “touchscreen driver” from a third-party driver site.
Check UEFI/BIOS Only When Appropriate
Some systems can expose hardware controls or diagnostics in firmware. Use only the settings documented for the exact Dell model and avoid changing unrelated firmware options.
Additional Information
A cracked panel, failed digitizer, loose internal connection, or other hardware problem will not be repaired by enabling a Device Manager entry. If diagnostics indicate hardware failure, the display may need service.
