To open NVIDIA Control Panel on Windows 11, press the Windows key, type NVIDIA Control Panel, and select the app in the results. You can also right-click an empty part of the desktop, select Show more options, and then select NVIDIA Control Panel.

What you need before you start
NVIDIA Control Panel is the settings app that comes with NVIDIA graphics hardware. It only works when two things are true:
- The PC has an NVIDIA graphics processor (GPU). A computer that only has Intel or AMD graphics cannot use NVIDIA Control Panel, and installing the app does not add NVIDIA graphics to it.
- An NVIDIA display driver is installed. The driver is the software that lets Windows talk to the graphics hardware. Without it, the control panel has nothing to manage.

Open NVIDIA Control Panel from Start
Searching from Start is the shortest route, and it does not depend on any desktop menu settings.
- Press the Windows key on your keyboard, or select the Search icon on the taskbar. The Start menu or search box opens.
- Start typing NVIDIA Control Panel. Windows lists matching apps as you type.
- Select NVIDIA Control Panel in the results. The control panel opens in its own window.
If you would rather browse than type, select Start, select All, and scroll through the alphabetical list of installed apps to the letter N.
NVIDIA’s own documentation describes the desktop route: right-click the Windows desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel from the menu. Windows 11 adds one extra click, because its shortened right-click menu hides many entries that other programs add.
- Go to the desktop and right-click an empty area, away from any icons. A short menu opens.
- Select Show more options. Windows opens the longer, older-style menu that holds entries the short menu leaves out.
- Select NVIDIA Control Panel. The control panel window opens.
If the entry is not in the longer menu either, use the Start search method instead. The desktop entry depends on how the driver is set up, so its absence does not always mean the app is missing.
Keep it one click away
If you open the control panel often, pin it. Search for NVIDIA Control Panel from Start as described above, right-click it in the results, and select Pin to Start. It then appears with your pinned apps every time you open the Start menu.
How to confirm you are in the right place
NVIDIA now has two apps with similar names, and it is easy to open the wrong one.
- NVIDIA Control Panel is the classic settings tool. One of its pages is Manage 3D Settings, which has a Global Settings tab for defaults that apply to every game and program and a Program Settings tab for settings that apply to one game or app. Its display pages cover tasks such as changing resolution, refresh rate, rotation, color settings and multiple-display setup.
- NVIDIA app is the newer companion app that keeps drivers up to date. NVIDIA says it brings settings from GeForce Experience and NVIDIA Control Panel into one app. Its Graphics tab holds game and driver settings, and System > Displays holds G-SYNC, resolution, refresh rate and orientation controls.
NVIDIA has said that some display settings, such as Surround, custom resolutions and multi-monitor setup, still had to be configured in NVIDIA Control Panel when the NVIDIA app launched, so both tools are worth knowing. Opening either one changes nothing on its own. If you opened the control panel only to look, close the window and your settings stay as they were.
If NVIDIA Control Panel is missing or will not open
Work through these checks in order. Each one rules out a common cause.
Check that Windows sees an NVIDIA GPU
- Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters to see the graphics hardware installed in the PC.
- Look for an entry with NVIDIA in its name.
If there is no NVIDIA entry, the PC is either using different graphics hardware or the NVIDIA driver is not installed. Many laptops have integrated graphics alongside an NVIDIA GPU, so you may see two entries, which is normal.
Update or reinstall the display driver
In Device Manager, right-click the NVIDIA display adapter and select Update driver, then select Search automatically for drivers. If Windows does not find a newer one, get the driver straight from the manufacturer. The NVIDIA Drivers page has a Manual Driver Search where you choose your product and operating system, and it also offers the NVIDIA app for automatic driver updates. If the driver seems damaged, Microsoft’s steps for reinstalling it are: save your work, right-click the NVIDIA adapter in Device Manager, select Uninstall device, confirm with Uninstall, and restart the PC. Get the app from Microsoft Store
NVIDIA publishes NVIDIA Control Panel as an app in Microsoft Store. If the driver is installed but the control panel is not on the PC, open Microsoft Store, search for NVIDIA Control Panel, check that the publisher is NVIDIA, and install it from there. Do not download repackaged copies from third-party driver sites.
Work or school PCs and local accounts
Microsoft notes that the Microsoft Store app may not be available when you are signed in with a local account, and that it may be turned off on a work device. If the Store is blocked on a managed PC, ask your administrator to install the control panel or the driver for you.
Frequently asked questions
Why is NVIDIA Control Panel not in my right-click menu on Windows 11?
Windows 11 uses a shorter right-click menu. Microsoft says entries from older menu extensions are not always shown there but are always available under Show more options. Select that first, then look for NVIDIA Control Panel.
Do I still need NVIDIA Control Panel if I have the NVIDIA app?
For many people the NVIDIA app is enough, because NVIDIA has moved 3D settings into it. NVIDIA’s guidance for workstation users says features such as Mosaic and display synchronization still have to be set up in NVIDIA Control Panel, and that the control panel continues to be included in the driver package for those features for the time being.
Can I install NVIDIA Control Panel on a PC without an NVIDIA graphics card?
It will not do anything useful. The control panel manages NVIDIA hardware through the NVIDIA driver. If Device Manager shows no NVIDIA adapter under Display adapters, use the settings app from your own graphics maker, or Windows display settings, instead.
Does opening NVIDIA Control Panel change my settings?
No. Nothing changes until you edit a setting and apply it. If you want a game to behave differently from everything else, make the change on the Program Settings tab of Manage 3D Settings rather than on Global Settings, so other programs keep their defaults.
Once the control panel opens reliably, pin it to Start so it is ready the next time you need to adjust a display or a game setting.
