You can update an NVIDIA graphics driver in Windows 11 through Windows Update, NVIDIA’s official software, or a driver downloaded directly from NVIDIA. On a laptop or branded desktop, the computer manufacturer may also provide a customized graphics driver.
Start with Windows Update
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install applicable updates and restart if required.
- Review optional driver updates if Windows offers one relevant to the graphics problem.
Use NVIDIA for a newer graphics driver
If you need NVIDIA’s current gaming, creative, or GPU-specific driver, use NVIDIA’s official driver download or NVIDIA App. Confirm the GPU model and operating system before installing.
Do not update only because a utility says the driver is old
If the system is stable, a driver update may not be urgent. Updates are most useful when they add support for software or games you use, fix a known issue, or address security and compatibility problems.
If the new driver causes problems
Restart first. If the problem clearly began after the update, Device Manager may offer a driver rollback depending on how the driver was installed. Manufacturer recovery packages can also be useful on laptops with customized graphics configurations.
