To pin a website to the taskbar in Windows 11, open the site in Microsoft Edge, select Settings and more (the three dots), then More tools > Pin to taskbar. The site gets its own taskbar icon that opens it in one click.

Before you start
Pinning adds a shortcut to the Windows taskbar, the strip that holds the Start button and your app icons. It does not download the website or change it, and you can remove the icon at any time. Three things are worth knowing first:
- The browser you pin from is the browser that opens the site. A site pinned from Edge opens in Edge, and a site installed from Chrome or Firefox opens in that browser.
- Pin the exact page you want. Go to the page you want the icon to open, such as your inbox or a dashboard, before you pin.
- You have two kinds of pin. A plain pin opens the site in the browser. Installing the site as an app opens it in its own window, separate from your other tabs. Both put an icon on the taskbar.
Pin a website with Microsoft Edge
Edge has a direct pin command in its menu, so this is the shortest route.
- Open Microsoft Edge and go to the website you want to pin. Wait for the page to finish loading.
- Select Settings and more, the three-dot button in the top-right corner of the Edge window. A menu opens.
- Select More tools. A second menu opens beside the first.
- Select Pin to taskbar. If Edge asks you to confirm, accept the prompt.
- Look at the taskbar. A new icon for the site appears there, and selecting it opens the site.
You can repeat these steps for as many sites as you like. Microsoft describes the feature on its Pin to taskbar page for Microsoft Edge.
Install the site as an app in Edge
Use this method when you want the site to behave like a separate program, with its own window and its own taskbar icon. It suits web mail, calendars, chat, and music players that you keep open all day.
- Open the website in Microsoft Edge.
- Select Settings and more > More tools > Apps > Install this site as an app. On sites that are built as web apps, an App available icon also appears in the address bar; selecting it and then Install does the same thing.
- Follow the prompt to finish the installation. The site opens in its own window.
- In Edge, type edge://apps in the address bar and press Enter. This page lists every site you have installed.
- Select Details on the card for your site, then select Pin to taskbar. The same panel offers Pin to Start and Create Desktop shortcut if you want the site in those places too.

Pin a website with Google Chrome
Google’s Chrome Help does not list a direct taskbar pin command. Instead, install the page as an app, then pin the running app the same way you pin any open program in Windows 11.
- Open Chrome and go to the website.
- At the top right, select More (the three dots) > Cast, save, and share > Install page as app. Some sites also show an Install button at the right end of the address bar.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. The site opens in its own window.
- While that window is open, right-click its icon on the taskbar and select Pin to taskbar. The icon now stays in place after you close the window.
The same Chrome menu also has a Create shortcut command, which makes a shortcut to the site rather than installing it as an app. Google covers both in its Chrome Help article on using web apps.
Pin a website with Mozilla Firefox
Firefox for Windows can add a site to the taskbar as a web app. Mozilla lists Firefox version 143 or later as the requirement, or version 150 or later if you installed Firefox from the Microsoft Store.
- Open the website in a regular Firefox window. The feature is not available in private windows.
- Select the web apps button that appears in the address bar. Firefox installs the site, and its icon appears on the Windows taskbar.
- If a notification asks whether to pin the app, select Yes so the icon stays on the taskbar.
A Firefox web app is a simplified window. According to Mozilla, it has no tab bar, bookmarks toolbar, or sidebar, its address bar is read-only, and you cannot open new tabs inside it. See Use web apps in Firefox for Windows for the details.
Which method should you use?

If you are signed in to a site in one browser only, pin from that browser. Otherwise the pinned icon opens a browser where you have to sign in again.
Check that it worked, move the icon, or remove it
- Test it: close the browser, then select the new taskbar icon. The site should open on the page you pinned.
- Move it: drag the icon left or right along the taskbar to change its position.
- Remove it: right-click the icon and select Unpin from taskbar. This removes only the shortcut. Your bookmarks, history, and sign-in for the site are not affected.
- Uninstall a site you installed as an app: in Edge, go to edge://apps, select Details on the app, then Uninstall. In Chrome, open the app, select More > Uninstall followed by the app name, then Remove. In Firefox, open the web app and select the web apps button in its address bar.
Troubleshooting
Pin to taskbar is missing from the Edge menu
Make sure you opened More tools first, because the command sits in that submenu and not in the main menu. If it is still missing, update Edge: select Settings and more > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge. If an update is available, select Download and install, then Restart when Edge asks.
You are on a work or school computer
Microsoft notes that taskbar pinning can be affected by browser settings, device settings, or policies set by an organization. If the option is missing or does nothing on a managed PC, your IT administrator controls it and is the person to ask.
The icon opens the wrong page
A pin opens the page that was on screen when you created it. Unpin the icon, go to the page you actually want, and pin again.
The icon disappears when you close the window
That icon was only showing because the app was running. Open the site’s app window again, right-click its taskbar icon, and select Pin to taskbar.

Right-click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings, expand Taskbar behaviors, and change Taskbar alignment. Pinned websites move with the rest of the icons.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pin more than one website?
Yes. Microsoft confirms you can pin multiple websites and web apps. Each one gets its own icon, so keep the list to the sites you open every day to stop the taskbar from getting crowded.
Does pinning a website install anything?
A plain pin from Edge only adds a shortcut. Installing a site as an app in Edge, Chrome, or Firefox adds an app entry that you can uninstall later, but it is still the same website.
Can I pin a website to the Start menu instead?
Yes, for a site installed as an app in Edge. Go to edge://apps, select Details on the app, and select Pin to Start. You can then group it with other pins in a Start folder, as shown in our guide to making the Windows 11 Start menu more like Windows 10.
Can I make a pinned site open when I sign in to Windows?
For a site installed as an app in Edge, yes. On edge://apps, select Details and turn on Auto-start on device login.
Can I pin regular apps the same way?
Apps are pinned from Windows, not from a browser. Type the app’s name in Search on the taskbar, right-click the app, and select Pin to taskbar. Microsoft’s Customize the taskbar in Windows page covers this.
