How to Download GTA Vice City on a Windows 10 Laptop

To download GTA Vice City on a Windows 10 laptop today, buy Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which includes a remastered Vice City, from Steam, the Epic Games Store or the Rockstar Store. Install the store’s app, sign in, and download the game from your library. The original 2002 PC version was removed from Steam and most stores in 2021, so be wary of sites offering it as a “free download”.

Applies to: Windows 10 64-bit, version 22H2, on laptops and desktops. Store availability and prices change, so check each store. Last reviewed October 8, 2026.

How to get GTA Vice City legally on a Windows 10 laptop
Buy from an official store and skip unofficial downloads. This is a drawing, not a screenshot.

Step 1: Check your laptop can run it

Open the game’s store page and compare the System Requirements with your laptop. Press Windows + Pause (or go to Settings > System > About) to see your processor and RAM, and type dxdiag in Start to see your graphics card on the Display tab. The Definitive Edition needs a 64-bit PC and a reasonably modern graphics chip; many older laptops with basic integrated graphics will struggle.

Step 2: Install a store app

  • Steam: download it from store.steampowered.com and sign in or create an account. See how to install Steam on Windows 10.
  • Rockstar Games Launcher: download it from Rockstar’s website. You’ll need it for Rockstar titles even when bought on Steam or Epic.
  • Epic Games Launcher: download it from the Epic Games Store.

Step 3: Buy and download

  1. Search the store for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy.
  2. Buy it and choose Install, or open your Library and select the game.
  3. Pick an install location with enough free space and start the download.
  4. When it finishes, launch the trilogy and choose Vice City from the menu.

The Trilogy also includes GTA III and San Andreas; for the San Andreas-specific steps, see how to download GTA San Andreas on Windows 10.

What about the original Vice City?

Rockstar has at times sold the classic PC versions of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas as a bundle through its own store, and some people still own them in older Steam libraries. If you already own the classic version, reinstall it from your library. Check the Rockstar Store for the current options before buying.

Avoid unofficial downloads

Sites and videos offering “GTA Vice City free download for PC” usually distribute pirated copies, and many bundle malware or adware. They’re also illegal. Buying from an official store is the only safe way. For other ways to get games, see how to download games on a Windows 10 PC.

Troubleshooting

The game won’t start

Update your graphics driver from the maker (NVIDIA, AMD or Intel), make sure the Rockstar Games Launcher is signed in, and verify the game files from your store’s library.

Low frame rate on a laptop

Plug in the charger, set Windows to Best performance in power settings, and lower graphics options in the game. On laptops with two graphics chips, make sure the game uses the dedicated one in Settings > System > Display > Graphics settings.

Not enough space

Uninstall games you no longer play; see how to uninstall games on Windows 10.
