Uninstalling a game can free storage space, but save data is not handled the same way by every game or launcher. Confirm that important saves are synchronized or backed up before removing a game you may want to reinstall later.
Uninstall from Windows Settings
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Apps & features.
- Find the game.
- Select it and choose Uninstall.
- Follow any launcher or uninstaller prompts.
Some games should be removed through their launcher
Steam, Epic Games, Xbox, EA, and other game platforms can manage their own installations. Using the launcher’s uninstall command can be the cleanest option when the game was installed and maintained through that platform.
Save files may remain
Cloud saves, local saves, configuration files, screenshots, and mods can be stored separately from the main game. Do not manually delete leftover folders until you know whether they contain data you want to keep.
If storage does not immediately return
Restart the launcher or Windows and check the drive again. Large update caches, mod folders, recordings, or other game-platform files can occupy space independently of the uninstalled game.
