If everything on a Windows 10 screen suddenly looks too large or too small, first check display scaling and resolution. Right-click the desktop, choose Display settings, then use the recommended scale and display resolution for the monitor.
Restore normal display scaling
- Right-click an empty part of the desktop.
- Select Display settings.
- Under Scale and layout, choose the recommended scaling value when available.
- Set Display resolution to the option marked Recommended.
A non-native resolution can make text and images look blurry, stretched, or unusually large.
If only one app or webpage is enlarged
The Windows display may be fine. In many browsers and applications, press Ctrl + 0 to reset zoom to its default. If the entire desktop is magnified and follows the pointer, Windows Magnifier may be active; press Windows + Esc to close it.
If the picture does not fit the monitor
Check the monitor or TV’s aspect-ratio and overscan settings, especially over HDMI. Also verify that Windows is using the correct display and graphics driver.
Windows 10 normal support ended October 14, 2025, but these display troubleshooting steps remain applicable to PCs still using it.
