If you do not want incoming text messages to appear as banners or on the iPhone 14 Lock Screen, change the notification settings for Messages. This does not stop the messages from arriving.
Turn off Messages pop-up notifications
- Open Settings.
- Select Notifications, then Messages.
- Under Alerts, turn off Banners if you do not want banner pop-ups.
- Turn off Lock Screen if messages should not appear there.
- Leave Notification Center enabled if you still want to review notifications later.
Hide message text without disabling alerts
If the problem is privacy rather than the notification itself, change Show Previews. Choosing an option such as When Unlocked can let you see that a message arrived without displaying its contents while the phone is locked.
You can also mute an individual conversation in Messages instead of changing notifications for every sender. Focus modes provide another option when you only want alerts suppressed during certain times or activities.
