If you need Windows 11 Pro, buy it from Microsoft or a reputable authorized retailer. Extremely cheap keys from unknown marketplaces can be unauthorized, region-restricted, volume-license keys, or keys that later stop activating.
Upgrade an activated Windows 11 Home PC to Pro
- Open Settings.
- Select System > Activation.
- Review the option to upgrade your Windows edition or open the Microsoft Store.
- Purchase Windows 11 Pro through the supported Microsoft purchase flow if it is offered for your device.
- Follow the activation and restart prompts.
Buying Windows 11 Pro for a new installation
Purchase a legitimate license from Microsoft or an established authorized seller and keep the receipt or license information. Download Windows installation media from Microsoft’s official Windows download service rather than from the key seller or a file-sharing site.
Check what you already own
Before buying, open Settings > System > Activation to see the edition and activation status. Some PCs already include a digital license, and reinstalling the same licensed edition on the same hardware may reactivate automatically.
Home versus Pro
Pro adds business-oriented features such as broader BitLocker management, domain/organization capabilities, and other administrative features. If you only need normal home applications, gaming, browsing, and Microsoft 365, confirm that a Pro license provides a feature you actually need before paying to upgrade.
