If the mouse pointer moves in the opposite direction from what you expect in Windows 11, first determine whether the problem affects a normal mouse, a touchpad, or only a particular game. Windows does not include a general “invert mouse” switch for ordinary desktop pointer movement.
If the problem is in a game
Open the game’s mouse, camera, or control settings and look for options such as Invert Y-axis or Invert mouse. Games commonly manage camera-direction inversion themselves, so changing Windows settings is unnecessary.
If a normal desktop mouse suddenly moves backward
- Restart the PC.
- Disconnect and reconnect the mouse.
- Try another USB port or re-pair a Bluetooth mouse.
- Test another mouse if one is available.
Unexpected reversed desktop movement can indicate mouse firmware, vendor software, a remapping utility, or faulty hardware rather than a standard Windows option.
Check mouse software
Gaming and specialty mice may use manufacturer software that can alter axes, profiles, or button behavior. Restore the relevant profile to defaults and update the software from the manufacturer’s official site if necessary.
Avoid Registry scripts that claim to reverse pointer axes globally. They are not a normal Windows 11 configuration method and can create harder-to-diagnose input problems.
If you actually mean reversed scrolling rather than reversed pointer movement, that is a different setting and should be adjusted through the touchpad or mouse software that controls scrolling.
