You can put a Zoom shortcut on the Windows 11 desktop even if the installer did not create one. The most reliable method is to use Windows’ Applications folder, which exposes installed app shortcuts that can be copied to the desktop.
Create a Zoom desktop shortcut
- Press Windows + R.
- Type shell:AppsFolder and press Enter.
- Find Zoom Workplace or the Zoom entry installed on your PC.
- Right-click it and choose Create shortcut.
- When Windows says it cannot create the shortcut there, choose Yes to place it on the desktop.
The new shortcut opens the installed Zoom application. The displayed product name can change as Zoom updates its desktop software.
If Zoom is not in the Applications folder
Open Start and search for Zoom. If Windows cannot find it, confirm that the desktop application is actually installed rather than assuming the shortcut is missing. Download Zoom only from Zoom’s official download source if you need to reinstall it.
Pinning Zoom is another option
If you mainly want faster access, search for Zoom from Start, right-click the result, and use the available pinning option. A taskbar pin is often more convenient than a desktop icon because it remains visible while other windows are open.
Do not copy the installer to the desktop
A downloaded Zoom installer is not the same thing as an application shortcut. Running the installer repeatedly can start setup or repair actions rather than simply opening Zoom. A shortcut should point to the installed application.
Change or remove the shortcut
You can rename a desktop shortcut without renaming the installed application. Deleting the shortcut also does not uninstall Zoom; it only removes that desktop entry. To uninstall the application itself, use Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
If a work computer blocks shortcuts
Organizations can manage desktop items and application installation through policy. If Zoom is supplied by your employer and the shortcut keeps disappearing or cannot be created, contact the administrator rather than changing policy settings yourself.
