To turn on Wi-Fi on a Gateway laptop running Windows 11, start with the network controls in Quick Settings. If Wi-Fi is missing entirely, check Airplane mode, the wireless adapter in Device Manager, and any hardware wireless key provided on your specific Gateway model.
Turn on Wi-Fi from Quick Settings
- Select the network, sound, or battery area on the right side of the taskbar to open Quick Settings.
- Make sure Airplane mode is off.
- Turn Wi-Fi on.
- Open the available network list, choose your network, and select Connect.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password when prompted.
If there is no Wi-Fi option
Right-click Start and open Device Manager. Expand Network adapters and look for the wireless adapter. If it is disabled, enable it. A warning symbol can indicate a driver or hardware problem.
Use Windows Update and Gateway’s official support resources for the exact laptop model when a wireless driver is missing. Avoid generic third-party driver-download sites.
Check the laptop’s hardware controls
Some laptops use a function key or keyboard shortcut to control wireless radios. The exact key varies by model, so look for a wireless or airplane symbol and consult the model’s documentation before assuming the adapter has failed.
If other devices can join the same network but the Gateway laptop cannot, restart the laptop and router, forget and reconnect to the network, and check whether the problem occurs on another Wi-Fi network. That helps distinguish a laptop issue from a router or Internet-service problem.
