A Windows Hello PIN is a device-specific sign-in method and is different from your Microsoft account password. To remove it in Windows 10, open Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options, select Windows Hello PIN, and choose Remove when Windows makes that option available.
Remove the Windows Hello PIN
- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Choose Sign-in options.
- Select Windows Hello PIN.
- Choose Remove and confirm the change.
- Verify your account credentials when prompted.
Some account-security configurations require Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts or are controlled by an organization. Review the other Sign-in options rather than changing registry values to force removal. On a managed work or school PC, contact the administrator.
Removing the PIN does not remove your password
Your Microsoft or local account still needs an authentication method. A Windows Hello PIN can provide stronger device-specific protection than repeatedly entering an online Microsoft account password, so removing it is not necessarily a security improvement.
Windows 10 normal support ended October 14, 2025. If the PC supports Windows 11, consider upgrading to a supported release.
