How to Turn Off iPhone 15 Pro Max

To turn off an iPhone 15 Pro Max, press and hold the side button and either volume button until the sliders appear, then drag slide to power off to the right. You can also go to Settings > General > Shut Down. To turn it back on, hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

Method 1: Use the buttons

1. Press and hold the side button on the right and either volume button on the left at the same time.
2. Let go when the sliders appear.
3. Drag slide to power off to the right.
4. Wait about 30 seconds for the iPhone to shut down completely.

Keep your fingers off the buttons once the sliders appear. If you keep holding them, the iPhone starts an Emergency SOS countdown. Release the buttons right away if you see it.

Method 2: Use Settings

This is handy if a button is broken or hard to press.

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap General.
3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Shut Down.
4. Drag slide to power off to the right.

Method 3: Ask Siri

Say “Hey Siri, turn off my iPhone,” or just “Siri, turn off my iPhone” if you’ve changed the wake phrase. Siri asks you to confirm before it shuts down.

Method 4: Use AssistiveTouch

AssistiveTouch adds an on-screen button you can use when a physical button doesn’t work.

1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch and turn it on.
2. Tap the floating button, then tap Device.
3. Touch and hold Lock Screen until the sliders appear, then drag slide to power off.

Turn off or restart?

• Turn off when you won’t use the iPhone for a while, such as during a flight with no Wi-Fi or before storing it.
• Restart (turn off, then on) when an app misbehaves, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth won’t connect, or the iPhone feels slow.
• Force restart only when the screen is frozen and the normal methods don’t work.

Turn the iPhone back on

Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears, then let go. If nothing happens, charge the iPhone for a few minutes and try again.

If the iPhone won’t turn off

If the screen is frozen or the sliders won’t appear, force restart the iPhone. This doesn’t erase anything.

1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.
2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.
3. Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears, then let go.
