How to Scan QR Codes on an iPhone Without Any Third-Party Apps

March 26, 2020 By Matt Jacobs

The steps in this article are going to show you how to use the default Camera app on your iPhone to scan QR codes.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Choose the Camera option.
  3. Tap the button to the right of Scan QR Codes to turn it on.

QR codes are often used in physical marketing campaigns as a way to provide a simple means for accessing additional information.

The premise of a QR code is pretty simple; you open an app on your iPhone, fit the QR code into the view window, then the action for which the QR code was created will be performed.

Previously your iPhone needed to use a third-party app to interact with QR codes, but it’s finally possible to use the Camera app on the device to scan QR codes.

If you then open the Camera app on your iPhone and place a QR code within the viewfinder, your iPhone will attempt to perform whatever action the QR code was created to complete.
