Step 1: Look for a backlight symbol
Inspect the function keys or keyboard for a key showing illuminated keys or a backlight symbol.
Step 2: Use the documented shortcut
Press the manufacturer’s keyboard-light shortcut. Some laptops require Fn plus the marked function key, while others use the function key alone.
Step 3: Check the manufacturer’s utility
If the shortcut does not work, open the PC manufacturer’s official control application and look for keyboard, lighting, or device settings.
Step 4: Check model documentation
Confirm that the exact laptop model actually includes a backlit keyboard; similarly named models can ship with different keyboard hardware.
Step 5: Update supported device software if needed
Use Windows Update and the manufacturer’s official support page for relevant hotkey/system-interface drivers.
