You can uninstall Microsoft 365 apps from Windows 10 through Settings. Before removing them, save open documents and make sure files stored only locally are backed up. Uninstalling Office applications does not cancel a Microsoft 365 subscription or delete documents stored in OneDrive.
Uninstall Microsoft 365 from Windows 10
- Close Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Office applications.
- Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Find the Microsoft 365 or Office installation.
- Select it and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal prompts and restart Windows if requested.
If the normal uninstall fails
Microsoft provides supported troubleshooting/removal tools for Office installations that cannot be removed normally. Use Microsoft’s current support documentation rather than third-party “Office cleaner” utilities or scripts that delete program and Registry entries indiscriminately.
What remains after uninstalling?
Your Word documents, Excel workbooks, and other personal files are separate from the Office applications and normally remain in their existing folders. Cloud files remain associated with their storage account. Still, verify backups before making major application changes.
Outlook data deserves extra attention. Depending on the account type, mail may be synchronized from the server or stored in local data files. Confirm that any locally stored or archived information you need is backed up before removing or reconfiguring Outlook.
If you are uninstalling Microsoft 365 to fix a problem, a repair from the app settings may be faster than a full removal. Windows 10’s standard free support ended in October 2025, so also confirm that the Microsoft 365 version you intend to reinstall remains supported for your operating-system configuration.
