Windows 10 lets you use a picture, solid color, or slideshow as the desktop background. The controls are under Settings > Personalization > Background.
Choose a desktop background
- Right-click an empty area of the desktop and select Personalize.
- Select Background.
- Choose Picture, Solid color, or Slideshow.
- If you choose Picture, browse for the image you want.
- Select the fit option that works best for your display.
Choose the right fit
Fill can crop part of an image to cover the screen, while Fit keeps the whole image visible but can leave unused space. Stretch can distort an image whose proportions do not match the display. Span is useful for some multi-monitor arrangements.
Use a suitable image resolution
A very small image can look blurry when enlarged to a high-resolution monitor. For the sharpest result, use an image with dimensions close to or larger than the display resolution.
If personalization is managed
A work or school administrator can enforce desktop-background policies. If wallpaper settings are unavailable or repeatedly revert on a managed PC, contact the administrator.
