The Pokemon Go app on your iPhone gives you the ability to catch Pokemon in your real-world environment.
These Pokemon can vary in their strength, and they can be powered up using two in-game mechanics called stardust and candy.
Since the game incentivizes you to catch many of the same Pokemon, you may have trouble telling them apart.
Fortunately, you are able to rename your Pokemon in Pokemon Go so that you can more easily distinguish specific Pokemon among the many of that species that you have caught.
How to Change the Name of a Pokemon in Pokemon Go
The steps in this article were performed on an iPhone 7 Plus in iOS 12.1.4.
I am using the most current version of the Pokemon Go app that was available when this article was written.
While this method could change in future versions of Pokemon Go, it has been this way for the majority of the app’s life, so it seems unlikely to change.
Step 1: Open the Pokemon Go app.

Step 2: Touch the Pokeball icon at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3: Choose the Pokemon option.
Step 4: Locate the Pokemon that you wish to rename and tap on it to select it.
Step 5: Tap the pencil icon to the right of the Pokemon’s current name.
Step 6: Delete the current name, enter the new name, then touch the OK button.
Now that you know how to rename a Pokemon in Pokemon Go, you can make it much easier to find specific Pokemon that you want to view in the game.
