How to Appraise a Pokemon in Pokemon Go

July 27, 2020 By Matt Jacobs

The Pokemon that you catch in Pokemon Go can vary in a lot of ways. The obvious difference involves the “CP” of the Pokemon which, if you’ve caught more than one of a specific Pokemon, is visible whenever you view the Pokemon in the game.

But each Pokemon also has individual levels, or “IVs” which can be used to evaluate how good a Pokemon is. This isn’t always reflected in the CP of the Pokemon, as lower CP Pokemon can have higher IVs that higher CP Pokemon.

You can view this information in Pokemon Go by appraising the Pokemon. There you can see the Attack, Defense and HP stats as bars, as well as a star rating that gives a brief overview of the Pokemon’s quality.

Our guide below will show you how to appraise a Pokemon in Pokemon Go.

Each segment of the bar under each value indicates 5 IVs. In the image above, my Haunter has the following IVs:

  • Attack – 13
  • Defense – 14
  • HP – 13
