To block an email address in Yahoo Mail, open a message from the sender, select More (the three dots) and choose Block senders. You can also go to Settings > More Settings > Security and privacy > Blocked addresses > Add and type the address. Future emails from that address won’t reach your inbox. Yahoo lets you block up to 1,000 addresses.

Method 1: Block from an email (web)
- Sign in to Yahoo Mail in a browser and open an email from the sender.
- Select More (the three dots) in the toolbar.
- Choose Block senders.
- Tick the option to delete existing emails from the sender if you want them gone too, then confirm.
Method 2: Add an address in Settings (web)
- Select the Settings gear icon at the top right, then More Settings.
- Select Security and privacy on the left.
- Under Blocked addresses, select Add.
- Type the full email address, for example [email protected].
- Select Save.
This is useful when you no longer have an email from the sender, or want to add several addresses in one go.
Method 3: Block in the Yahoo Mail app
- Open the Yahoo Mail app and tap an email from the sender.
- Tap More (the three dots) at the bottom or top of the message.
- Tap Block senders and confirm.
Blocked addresses sync across the app and the website, so you only need to block once.
Block a whole domain with a filter
The blocked list only takes full addresses. If junk comes from many addresses at the same domain, use a filter instead:
- Go to Settings > More Settings > Filters > Add new filters.
- Name the filter, for example “Block example.com”.
- Set From to contains and type @example.com.
- Choose Trash as the folder to move messages to, then select Save.
Block, spam or unsubscribe?
- Unsubscribe: best for newsletters and shops you signed up with. Yahoo shows an Unsubscribe link at the top of many such emails.
- Mark as spam: best for real junk. Select the email and choose Spam. This also helps Yahoo filter similar messages for everyone.
- Block: best for a specific person or address you never want to hear from.
Unblock an address
Go to Settings > More Settings > Security and privacy > Blocked addresses, hover over the address and select the trash can icon. Emails sent while the address was blocked won’t come back.
Troubleshooting
I still get emails from a blocked sender
The sender is probably using a different address. Check the full address by selecting the sender’s name, then block that too, or use a domain filter.
There’s no Blocked addresses option
Make sure you’re in More Settings, not the quick settings panel. If the layout looks different, search Yahoo Mail settings for “blocked”.
The block list is full
Yahoo’s limit is 1,000 addresses. Remove old entries, or replace several addresses from the same domain with one filter.
Frequently asked questions
Does the sender know they’ve been blocked?
No. Yahoo doesn’t notify the sender that you’ve blocked them.
Can I block phone numbers or texts in Yahoo?

Does blocking work for emails already in my inbox?
Only if you choose to delete existing emails when you block. Otherwise they stay where they are.
Can I block senders in Gmail the same way?
Yes. In Gmail, open the email, select the three dots next to Reply and choose Block. Gmail sends future emails from that address to Spam rather than deleting them. While you’re in Gmail settings you can also set an out-of-office reply.
