Word normally omits page background colors and images from printing unless the corresponding print option is enabled. In desktop Word, open Word Options, go to the Display settings, and enable printing of background colors and images.
Print the document background
- Open the document in desktop Microsoft Word.
- Select File > Options.
- Choose Display.
- Find the printing-options section.
- Enable Print background colors and images.
- Select OK.
- Open File > Print and inspect the preview before printing.
Expect much heavier ink or toner use
A full-page background can consume substantially more ink or toner than ordinary text. Home and office printers can also leave an unprinted margin because many models cannot print edge to edge.
If the background still does not print correctly
Check the printer’s own driver settings and capabilities. Borderless printing, color-management options, and printable margins are controlled partly by the printer, not Word.
Word 2013 versus current Word
