You can still install a licensed version of Microsoft Office on Windows 10, but the product and support situation matters now that Windows 10 reached the end of standard support on October 14, 2025. Microsoft 365 and perpetual Office releases have different licensing and lifecycle rules.
Install Office from your Microsoft account
- Sign in to the Microsoft account or work/school account associated with your Office license.
- Open the Microsoft 365 or Office installation page available for that account.
- Choose the option to install the desktop apps.
- Run the installer that downloads to the PC.
- Open an Office app such as Word and sign in if activation is requested.
Use Microsoft’s official account and download pages. Avoid third-party “Office installers,” activators, KMS tools, or product-key generators.
If you have a product key
A legitimate unused retail key may first need to be redeemed to a Microsoft account. Follow the instructions supplied with the license or Microsoft’s official redemption process rather than downloading an arbitrary ISO.
Windows 10 considerations
Office may continue to run on Windows 10, and Microsoft has announced limited Microsoft 365 security-update arrangements beyond Windows 10’s standard support date. That does not make Windows 10 itself a normally supported operating system. If the computer supports Windows 11, moving to the supported OS is the better long-term plan.
Before purchasing a new Office license for an older PC, confirm that the specific Office release supports your Windows version and hardware.
