You can uninstall Microsoft Office from Windows 10 through normal Windows application controls or Microsoft’s supported removal tools. Before removing it, make sure documents and any locally stored Outlook data you need are backed up.
Uninstall Office through Windows
- Close Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Office applications.
- Open Settings > Apps.
- Find Microsoft 365 or the installed Office edition.
- Select Uninstall.
- Follow the prompts and restart Windows if requested.
Office installations are not all packaged the same way
Microsoft 365 Click-to-Run, Microsoft Store installations, and older MSI-based Office versions can have different removal behavior. If normal uninstall fails, use Microsoft’s current Office uninstall/troubleshooting procedure for your installation type rather than deleting program folders.
Protect Outlook data
Exchange, Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, and IMAP mail is often synchronized with a server, but local PST archives and other locally stored data may not be. Identify and back up anything that exists only on the PC before removing Office.
Uninstalling Office does not delete your Microsoft account
Your subscription or license is associated with the relevant account or organization. Removing the applications from one computer does not itself cancel a Microsoft 365 subscription.
Do not use third-party “Office cleaners” casually
Unknown cleanup utilities can remove shared components or alter licensing information. Prefer Windows and Microsoft-supported removal methods.
Windows 10 support status
For Office removal, remember that Microsoft ended standard Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Verify that the Office version you plan to reinstall remains supported on the operating system you intend to use.
