How to Turn Off the iPhone Text Message Sound

The steps in this post were completed on an iPhone 14 Plus running iOS 16.6.

These methods are also applicable to many other iOS versions and iPhone models, including the ones listed below:

  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max

Step 1: Find the Settings icon on your Home screen and tap it to open the menu.

Step 2: Scroll down to Notifications.

Step 3: Scroll down and choose Messages from the list of apps.

Step 4: Select the Sounds option.

Step 5: Navigate to the Tone List area and choose None.

Now that you know how to mute text alerts on iPhone 14, you’ll be able to use your phone and receive text messages and iMessages without hearing that notification sound every time.

If you don’t want your phone to vibrate when they arrive, choose the Vibration option at the top of the Sounds page and select None.

This menu also has some other notification settings that you may want to change.

You might, for example, toggle the Badges option on or off depending on whether you want to see the red circle with the white number that appears on the Messages app when you have an unread message.

You may also adjust the setting for repeat alerts or ban notifications from unknown senders by selecting the Customize Notifications option at the bottom of the menu.
