What is the Red Circle with a Number on the App Store on My iPhone?

March 25, 2020 By Matt Jacobs

  • The red circle with the number inside of it appears when you have app updates available.
  • You can stop that number from appearing by enabling automatic app updates.
  • You can also change a notification setting to stop that number from appearing.

Many of the apps on your iPhone can display badge app icons to let you know that something needs your attention. It could be new text messages or emails but, in the case of the App Store, it means that you have app updates available.

You can manually install app updates to get that red circle with the number to go away, but there are a couple of other ways you can clear the notification, too.

Our tutorial below will walk you through how to manually install app updates, how to enable automatic app updates, and how to turn off the badge app icon notification for the app store.

How to Install App Updates on an iPhone 11

The steps in this guide were performed on an iPhone 11 in iOS 13.3.1, but will also work for other iPhone models using iOS 13.
