- The red circle with the number inside of it appears when you have app updates available.
- You can stop that number from appearing by enabling automatic app updates.
- You can also change a notification setting to stop that number from appearing.
Many of the apps on your iPhone can display badge app icons to let you know that something needs your attention. It could be new text messages or emails but, in the case of the App Store, it means that you have app updates available.
You can manually install app updates to get that red circle with the number to go away, but there are a couple of other ways you can clear the notification, too.
Our tutorial below will walk you through how to manually install app updates, how to enable automatic app updates, and how to turn off the badge app icon notification for the app store.
How to Install App Updates on an iPhone 11
The steps in this guide were performed on an iPhone 11 in iOS 13.3.1, but will also work for other iPhone models using iOS 13.
Step 1: Open the App Store.
Step 2: Choose the Today tab, then select your profile icon.
Step 3: Tap the Update button to install an individual update, or tap Update All to install all of them.
In the next section we will show you where to find the setting that lets your iPhone install the updates itself.
How to Enable Automatic App Updates on an iPhone 11
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Choose the iTunes & App Store option.
Step 3: Tap the button to the right of App Updates.
In the last section below we are going to show you how to change a notification setting to prevent that red circle from appearing even when there are app updates available.
How to Turn off the Badge App Icon for the App Store on an iPhone 11
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Select the Notifications option.
Step 3: Choose the App Store option.
Step 4: Tap the button to the right of Badges to turn it off.
