Streaming video from places like Amazon Prime, Hulu or Netflix can use a lot of data. It’s something that anyone with a limited amount of cellular data may pay attention to, but it can also affect your home data usage.
If you have a data cap on your home Internet service and you have an Amazon Fire TV Stick, then you may be concerned about how much of your data is being used by the device.
Luckily this is something that you can monitor on the Fire Stick itself. You simply need to turn on something called Data Monitoring, then you can see how much data has been used by each of your apps this month.
How to View Your Month to Date Data Usage for Amazon Fire TV Stick Apps
The steps in this article were performed on an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K. By enabling the option in the steps below you will gain access to a new menu you can view how much data your apps have used in the current month.
Step 1: Press the Home button on your remote, then choose Settings at the top of the screen.
Step 2: Scroll to the right and choose the Preferences option.
Step 3: Select the Data Monitoring option.
Step 4: Click on Data Monitoring to switch it to “On.”
Step 5: Scroll down and choose the new Monthly Top Data Usage option.
Step 6: View how much data has been used by your installed apps.
Note that on the Data Monitoring menu there is an option called Set Video Quality. If you change this to a lower option then your video streaming quality will lower, which can help to reduce your data usage.
Additionally you should see a Set Data Alert option which you can configure to notify you when you have reached a certain amount of data usage for the month on the device.
Find out whether you need an Internet connection if you are planning to use your Fire TV Stick while on a trip and you aren’t sure if you will have Internet access.
