You can remove an iPad’s passcode from Settings when you know the current passcode. Doing so reduces the device’s physical security, so keeping a passcode enabled is usually the safer choice.
Turn off the iPad passcode
- Open Settings.
- Select Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode, depending on the model.
- Enter the current device passcode.
- Tap Turn Passcode Off.
- Confirm the change and provide your Apple Account password if requested.
Face ID or Touch ID cannot replace the underlying passcode entirely. Turning the passcode off also disables protections and features that depend on device authentication.
If the passcode is forgotten
The Settings procedure cannot bypass an unknown passcode. Apple’s supported recovery process generally requires erasing the locked iPad and setting it up again. You can then restore an available backup, while Activation Lock may still require the Apple Account associated with the device.
