“Device ID” can refer to several different identifiers in Windows 10. For troubleshooting a particular piece of hardware, the most useful value is often its Hardware Ids entry in Device Manager.
Find a hardware ID in Device Manager
- Right-click Start and choose Device Manager.
- Expand the category containing the device.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Choose Hardware Ids from the Property list.
- Right-click a value to copy it when you need it for driver or support research.
Windows device identifier
If you are looking for the PC’s Windows device ID rather than a hardware component ID, open Settings > System > About and review the device information shown there. A serial number, product ID, hardware ID, and device ID are not interchangeable, so use the identifier requested by the support instructions you are following.
Windows 10’s standard free support period ended in October 2025. That does not remove these identifiers, but support or driver troubleshooting should take the operating system’s lifecycle into account.
